Ayurveda is the simple and profoundly beneficial science of life
originated in India more than 5,000 years ago.
This ancient healing science is still valued for its therapeutic
long-term benefits, as it affords the unique luxury of time for
oneself, offering an exclusive path to wellness that is a much needed
antidote for today’s physical and mental demands.
The word Ayurveda comes from Sanskrit, where “ Ayu ”
means life and “ Veda ” means knowledge. Ayurveda is
therefore literally translated to mean science of life or knowledge
of longevity.
By definition, Ayurveda is more than a holistic medicinal science.
Its foundation is intricately woven in nature, and as such Ayurveda
is also a healing science capable of connecting every individual
to one’s highest self, providing a more positive and active
approach to health and wellness.
In Ayurveda’s view, good health will manifest itself in a
state of balance between mind, body, spirit, and the environment
around us. This balance, or harmony, is achieved through diet, physical
exercise, lifestyle, meditation, psychological well-being, and the
serenity that comes with self-acceptance.
Ayurveda’s uniqueness lies in the knowledge that no two individuals
are alike. This leads to the acknowledgment that, although the symptoms
of distress or illness in two individuals may be the same, the knowledge
and methods used to treat each person may be different.
Ayurveda is today experiencing a tremendous surge in the West, as
it promotes a lifestyle unlike any other, rooted in simplicity,
elegance, a connection to nature and a “back-to-basics”
approach to taking care of oneself. It promotes true mind, body
and spirit paradigm, emphasizing self-responsibility and encouraging
prevention through positive lifestyle change.
